During a speech on Sunday, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden claimed that an estimated “200 million people” would be dead from COVID-19 by the end of his speech.

Biden said, “And perhaps most cruelly of all, if Donald Trump has his way, the complications from COVID-19, which are well beyond what they should be—it’s estimated that 200 million people will have died probably by the time I finish this talk—the complications of COVID-19, like lung scarring and heart damage, could become the next deniable preexisting condition for over six million Americans who’ve already contracted the disease.”

There have been less than a million deaths from COVID-19 globally, according to Worldometer. Worldometer also estimates there has currently been less than 43 million deaths this year.

Biden has previously had trouble with numbers. For example, during the Democratic primaries Biden said that his child tax credit “would put 720 million women back in the workforce.” There are only about 165 million women in the United States.
