New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill on Monday that would allow Congress to access the state’s tax returns of President Donald Trump. “Tax secrecy is paramount – the exception being for bonafide investigative and law enforcement purposes,” Cuomo explained.

“By amending the law enforcement exception in New York State tax code to include Congressional tax-related committees, this bill gives Congress the ability to fulfill its Constitutional responsibilities, strengthen our democratic system and ensure that no one is above the law.”

The passage of this law is just an example of the Democrats using every option they can think of to remove Trump from office. The logic behind the law is that presidents traditionally release their tax returns, and Trump is violating this tradition.

This tradition is a very new tradition, only being 40 years old, and people doing something out of tradition is not grounds for the creation of a law to mandate the tradition. Additionally, allowing broad access to Trump’s tax returns violates his privacy.

Individual tax returns, including those of public figures, are private information. Finally, it is unlikely Trump did anything illegal anyways, this is just the Democrats shooting blindly to try to get Trump out of office.
