Kamala Harris, days after the debate where she destroyed Joe Biden over his busing policies, called for federally mandated busing policies to increase school integration.
“I support busing. Listen, the schools of America are as segregated, if not more segregated, today than when I was in elementary school,” Harris claimed.
And she might be right. Her debate with Biden was extremely misleading. She led the public to believe that she was one of the first black people to attend this all-white school when in actuality she was attending a school that had been integrated for years. When she first entered the school it was already 41% black.
Moreover, these policies have always been extremely unpopular in the 1970s, with one Gallup poll finding only 5% of Americans believing busing was a good way to integrate schools. It is also unclear whether busing helps students, with much evidence suggesting that it actually hurts the students.
This is clear pandering by Kamala Harris. She is taking advantage of her verbal beatdown of Joe Biden and using this point to continue gaining in the polls. She is relying on the ignorance of Democrats to help her gain more traction.
