House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney says House Republicans are united despite a blow up by Freedom Caucus members in the Republican conference meeting Tuesday morning, which included severe criticism of her for supporting a primary opponent of Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie.
Massie excoriated Cheney in late June, months after he forced a roll-call vote on a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package, which made the House return to Washington in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Massie’s attempt to force a vote didn’t work. He angered lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, prompting Cheney and other Republicans to support his primary opponent. Massie argued, however, the legislation was too massive to voice vote through and was necessary to put lawmakers’ votes on the record.
