Trump-backed GOP House candidate wins Republican primary in New Hampshire swing district

Republican Matt Mowers, a President Trump-endorsed candidate, will face first-term Democratic incumbent Rep. Chris Pappas after Mowers won New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District Republican primary.

On Tuesday, Mowers, 31, defeated his Republican primary opponent Matt Mayberry after winning about 60% of the district’s vote.

Although Mowers’s campaign for Congress in his native state of New Hampshire is his first bid for elective office, he previously worked as a senior aide to Gov. Chris Christie during the New Jersey Republican’s administration.
